Tech set to enjoy bye week before hosting North Carolina

BLACKSBURG – After wrapping up a strong first half of the 2017 season with a win at Boston College last Saturday, No. 15 Virginia Tech will recuperate during the upcoming bye week before welcoming North Carolina to Lane Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 21, at 3:30 p.m. as part of homecoming weekend in Blacksburg.
The game will be broadcast on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC. A final decision will be made at the conclusion of this weekend’s games. A preliminary version of Virginia Tech’s game notes can be found on the top right of the page.
INSIDE THE SERIES
• The matchup on Oct. 21 will be the 40th meeting in the all-time series between Virginia Tech and North Carolina.
• The Hokies lead the all-time series, 21-12-6, and have won seven of the last 10 meetings.
• When ranked, Virginia Tech is 7-1 against the Tar Heels.
• UNC’s last visit to Blacksburg saw the Tar Heels win a 30-27 overtime thriller in Frank Beamer’s game at Lane Stadium.
• North Carolina, who’s 2-4 all-time at Lane Stadium and 4-4 overall in Blacksburg, has never won back-to-back games at Lane.
• The Tar Heels’ lone consecutive victories in Blacksburg came on Oct. 29, 1904, a 6-0 win, and Oct. 4, 1930, a 39-21 victory.

• The Hokies feature 10 North Carolina natives: Hendon Hooker (Greensboro), Caleb Farley (Hickory), Austin Reeves (Huntersville), Jimmie Taylor (Jacksonville), Houshun Gaines (Rocky Mount), Zion Debose (Salisbury), Mook Reynolds (Greensboro), Adonis Alexander (Charlotte), Divine Deablo (Winston-Salem) and Drake DeIuliis (Charlotte).
• Virginia Tech r-senior Deon Newsome’s little brother, Dazz, is a true freshman for the Tar Heels.
• UNC defensive coordinator John Papuchis graduated from Virginia Tech in 2011 with a degree in business management and worked as a volunteer assistant as an undergraduate under former head coach David Crist at Blacksburg High School.
