Tech men now at No. 9 in latest USTFCCCA poll

The Tech women's squad continues to receive votes

BLACKSBURG – After a second-place finish at the ACC Championships this past Friday in Louisville, Kentucky, the Virginia Tech men’s cross country team moved up two spots in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll to No. 9.

For the third consecutive poll, the Hokies improved on their program-best ranking. In the Oct. 3 poll, they came in at No. 12 and then moved up a spot to No. 11 in the Oct. 17 poll. Now, the No. 9 ranking marks the best in program history.

On the women’s side, the Hokies are receiving votes in the poll (six votes) for the second consecutive poll. Tech finished third in the race for the women’s team title at the ACC Championships.

The Tech men’s team is one of three in the ACC ranked in the USTFCCA men’s poll. Syracuse checked in at No. 3 after winning the ACC team title, while NC State came in at No. 23. On the women’s side, only one ACC school is nationally ranked – NC State at No. 5 – but two others are receiving votes, including the Hokies and Louisville.

Tech’s Peter Seufer led the men this past weekend, as the redshirt sophomore ran the 8K course in a time of 23 minutes, 31.4 seconds to finish seventh overall. Daniel Jaskowak came in 11th, while Neil Gourley finished right behind him in 12th. Vincent Ciattie came in 18th. All four earned All-ACC honors, with Jaskowak earning those for the second time in his career.

On the women’s side, Katie Kennedy led the Hokies with her 19th-place finish, and Kayla Richardson came in 20th. Kennedy earned All-ACC honors for the second time, while Richardson earned those for the first time.

The Virginia Tech squads resume action Friday at the Hokie Open – the final home meet of the season. The meet will be held at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course, with the first race starting at 4:30 p.m.
