BLACKSBURG - The 23rd-ranked Virginia Tech wrestling team will have its hands full this weekend as it takes on a pair of ranked opponents in No. 10 Oklahoma and No. 25 Old Dominion. The Hokies will head west to take on the Sooners Friday night at 8 p.m. (Eastern) and return home to take on the Monarchs Sunday at 6 p.m.

Friday night’s event will be a unique one as the Hokies will be part of the OU Athletics Department’s fifth annual Beauty and the Beast Night at the Lloyd Noble Center. Featuring the OU wrestling and women’s gymnastics teams competing side-by-side, the Beauty and the Beast event gives fans of each sport the unique opportunity to see what the other is all about. It has become a popular event around the country. While the wrestling meet is going on, the No. 4 OU women’s gymnastics team takes on North Carolina State.

On Sunday, the Hokies and Monarchs will renew their heated rivalry, this time in Blacksburg. Tech has won the last two against ODU, beating the Monarchs in 2010 in Salem and last year in Norfolk.

Before the match, Tech will hold a senior ceremony to recognize Nick Murray and David Marone. Murray is a redshirt senior finishing up his career while Marone’s career is still up in the air. He has redshirted, but was injured this year and will apply for a sixth year of eligibility. There’s a chance Marone could return next year, but both will be honored Sunday for their contributions to Tech wrestling.
