STANFORD, Calif. - The Virginia Tech track & field team wrapped up this weekend’s competition at Stanford’s elite Payton Jordan Invitational with numerous best marks on Sunday.
Thomas Curtin led the Hokies with a school record 13:33.88-finish in the 5,000 meters. Curtin eclipsed the previous program best of 13:41.06 set in 2012 by nearly eight seconds, finishing as the fourth-best collegian in the event.
Vincent Ciattei paved the way for the Hokies with a first place finish in section four of the 800 meters. His 1:49.87-time ranks him ninth in program history. Kevin Cianfarini added a personal best time in the event, clocking in at 1:51.00.
On the women’s side, Rachel Pocratsky led team with a sixth-finish in the 800 meters in section four. Her 2:05.30 finish ranks third in Virginia Tech program history.
In the 1500 meters, Neil Gourley clocked in at 3:42.70 to place eighth overall and fourth collegian in section two to maintain his top-10 program ranking. Diego Zarate took third in section six with a personal best time of 3:47.76.
Also in the 5000 meters, Peter Seufer and Andrew Gaiser clocked in 14.16.02 and 14:19.58, respectively in section four. Lauren Berman ran a 17:48.65-5k to steady the women’s team.
Daniel Jaskowak competed in section four of the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing 9:19.99.
The Hokies wrap up their regular season Wednesday at the Liberty Twilight meet before hosting the Roanoke Outdoor Classic at the Johnson/Miller Track Complex on Thursday, May 5.
