Hokies wrap up Technotational with CAC record

Nazieblo sets new pool mark in 100 back

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – Senior Klaudia Nazieblo set a new pool record in the 100-yard backstroke on Sunday evening at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center during the final day of competition at the 2018 Technotational.

Nazieblo turned in a time of 52.63, edging out the previous record of 52.65 set in 2012 by former Hokies swimmer Sabrina Benson. She already owns the program record after turning in a time of 52.05 at last year’s ACC Championships.

“It was a fine weekend for the Hokies,” said head coach Ned Skinner. “Special shout-out to Damian Salas for implementing a true rocking environment for us! I am proud of our conference team for their selfless support of their teammates this weekend and the on-going full commitment from our coaches and staff.”

Jessie Arnold took third in the 1650 free with a time of 17:08.70 to get the Hokies started in the final session of the Technotational. Jessica Beattie followed up with a second place performance in the 200 back with a time of 2:02.48.

The Hokies swept the women’s 100 free behind Abigail Andrusin’s 50.15. Sydney Pesetti finished in 50.87 while Kayla Purchell turned in a time of 51.25.

Caroline de Jager claimed second in the women’s 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:20.92.

Tech went one, three in the 200 fly as Molly Sheffield had a time of 2:03.42 with senior Logan Williams posting a mark of 2:03.55.

“Logan Williams concluded a career in which she always gave us 100% and lives the true Hokie Spirit,” said Skinner. “Abby Andrusin, Jessica Beattie and Kayla Purcell all had strong weekends for us.”

The Hokies wrapped up the meet with a 3:25.72 first place finish in the 400 free relay behind swims from Andrusin, Purcell, Pesetti and Beattie.

Alex McMurry claimed the top spot in the 200 back to get the men’s team started in the evening session. He put up a time of 1:48.26 while teammate Cooper Pitts took third in 1:49.35.

Chris Outlaw tied for second in the men’s 100 free with a time of 45.97. Lasse Pittioni took second in the men’s 200-yard breaststroke (1:59.97) while his teammate Connor Doyle finished third (2:02.71).

Tech concluded with a second place finish in the 400 free relay as Pittioni, McMurry, Outlaw and Gershwin Greene had a time of 3:08.22.

“Lasse and Alex were dominant in their events and really emerged here for us this weekend,” said Skinner.

The Hokies will be back in the pool at the ACC Championships. Tech’s women and divers will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina Feb. 14-17 while the men will make the trip Feb. 21-24.
