GAME SUMMARY
The Virginia Tech Hokies rallied from a 10-point
deficit to take the lead in the second half and
Ronyell Whitaker made a big defensive play in
the waning seconds as the Hokies rang in the
New Year with a 20-13 win over Air Force in
the inaugural Diamond Walnut San Francisco
Bowl at Pac Bell Park, home of Major League
Baseball’s San Francisco Giants. Whitaker
knocked away a certain touchdown pass to
preserve the Hokies’ win. Lee Suggs led Tech’s
offense with two touchdown runs.

GAME SUMMARY
Cal kicker Tyler Fredrickson, who came into
the game having made just 14 of 29 field-goal
attempts all season, drilled a 35-yarder at
the final horn to lift California past the Hokies
52-49 at Bank One Ballpark, home of Major
League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks.
Tech quarterback Bryan Randall threw for 398
yards and four touchdowns and DeAngelo Hall
returned a punt for a touchdown, but the Hokies
allowed 530 yards of offense and couldn’t stop
the Bears on their final drive.

GAME SUMMARY
The Virginia Tech Hokies took the Auburn
Tigers to the final two minutes of the game, but
could not pull off the upset, falling to the Tigers
16-13 at the Superdome. Trailing 16-6 with
2:13 showing on the clock, Tech cut into the
lead when quarterback Bryan Randall hit Josh
Morgan for an 80-yard touchdown strike to bring
Tech within three points with 2:01 remaining.
Auburn, though, recovered Tech’s onsides kick
and ran out the clock to register the win. Randall
accounted for 344 yards of offense in the loss.
