Hokies head to Akron for U23 World Team Trials
McFadden is set for first freestyle tournament of the year after earning All-American honors for the second time

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech wrestling program will have seven representatives competing this weekend at the U23 World Team Trials in Akron, Ohio.
Freestyle action begins tomorrow, June 2, at 9:30 a.m. Live stream and live results can be found on FloWrestling.com. Updates throughout the weekend can also be found on Twitter at @HokiesWrestling.
Coming off of a redshirt sophomore season that saw him win an ACC title and earn All-American honors for the second time, David McFadden will compete in his first freestyle tournament of the year at 79kg. NCAA qualifiers Kyle Norstrem (57kg) and Ryan Blees (70kg) will also scrap this weekend in Akron.
Bumping up to 97kg will be rising redshirt freshman John Borst. The Sherando, Virginia native placed second at U.S. Open and reached the best of three championship series at the World Team Trials wrestling at 92kg.
Volunteer assistant coach Ty Walz represented the United States on last year’s U23 World Team. He won the bronze medal at 97kg at the inaugural U23 World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
