2017-18: Went 19-14 as a redshirt sophomore … Started in five duals at 174 pounds … Had eight bonus point victories … Went 4-1 at the Wolfpack Open where he majored Maryland’s Shawn Mosca, 13-4 … Turned in a 3-1 performance at the Storm Open … Registered a 6-4 decision over Virginia’s Will Schany and tech falled the Citadel Matt McGillick, 20-3 in 4:42, as part of a 3-2 showing at the Southern Scuffle … Defeated Oklahoma’s Jeremy Thomas with a 6-2 decision at the Virginia Duals … Went 4-1 at the Edinboro Open.
2016-17: Redshirted … Went 30-8 wrestling unattached … Went 2-2 at University Nationals, defeating opponents from New York RTC and Penn RTC … Won the 174-pound title at the Appalachian Open after going 4-0 … Beat Lee Davis from NC State in the sudden victory OT, 4-2, in the semifinals … Wrestled back to place fifth at the Edinboro Open where he went 6-1 … Beat opponents from Missouri and Stanford at the Edinboro Open … Went 6-1 to earn fifth place at the Franklin & Marshall Open.
2015-16: Compiled a 15-8 record…Won against Preston McCalmon of Arizona State 6-1 (Jan. 9)…Won by decision 11-9 versus Charley Popp of North Dakota State (Nov. 22).
High School: Cody Hughes wrestled at Marshwood High in Maine and placed third at the 2014 NHSCA Junior Nationals in Folkstyle at 152 pounds. He took second at the New England Regional Championships as a junior and won the NHSCA Sophomore Nationals in 2013. A four-time state champion, he went 50-0 as a junior and set a state record for career wins at 212. Hughes was twice named the Maine Sunday Telegram’s Wrestler of the Year.
Personal: Majoring in hospitality and tourism management
