Robie Era begins Saturday vs. No. 21 Stanford
Both squads boast four wrestled that are ranked to begin the season

BLACKSBURG - Coming off of their fifth straight top 10 finish at the NCAA Championships, the No. 9 Virginia Tech wrestling team opens the 2017-18 season on Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 1:30 p.m. vs. No. 21 Stanford.
The match is free admission and will be streamed live on ACC Network EXTRA via the Watch ESPN platform. Free Virginia Tech wrestling t-shirts will be handed out as part of fan appreciation day.
VIRGINIA TECH VS. STANFORD: STORYLINES
- Saturday’s dual will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
- Virginia Tech is 5-0 all-time against member is the current configuration of the Pac-12. Tech’s last dual vs. a Pac-12 foe came against Arizona State at the Virginia Duals on 1/9/16, a 28-12 win for the Hokies.
- Head coach Tony Robie enters his first season at the helm of the Hokie wrestling program and his 12th campaign overall in Blacksburg.
- Robie’s lone season as a head coach came during the 2005-06 season at Binghamton where the Bearcats, a program that was restarted two years earlier in 2003-04, went 0-12.

- Both squads boast four wrestlers that ranked nationally by Intermat but none will go head-to-head.
- Redshirt freshman heavyweight Andrew Dunn is 1-1 vs. common opponents of No. 10 Nathan Butler.
- If true freshman Hunter Bolen gets the start at 174, fans will see the Hokies send out four true or redshirt freshman.
