Tech wrestlers set to compete at F&M Open

BLACKSBURG – The No. 6 Virginia Tech wrestling will be sending 14 grapplers to compete at the annual David H. Lehman F&M Open on Saturday, Jan. 7, in Lancaster, Pa. The day kicks off at 9 a.m. and live stats can be found on TrackWrestling.com.

The contingent of grapplers wrestling attached and unattached represented the program well last time out at the Cleveland State Open on Dec. 17. Sophomore David McFadden and freshman Brent Moore went a combined 10-0 and took home individual championships in their respective weight classes.

For McFadden it was his first time on the mat since earning All-America honors at 165 pounds at last year’s NCAA Championships. He registered two tech falls, a major decision and two-consecutive pins in the semifinals and finals to win the 165-pound title. Moore picked up a fall in 1:04 in the quarters before picking up an MD in the semis.

Redshirt junior Dennis Gustafson, who last wrestled on Nov. 20 at No. 5 Missouri and was 4-1 this season at 141 pounds, will compete this weekend at 133 pounds for the first time in his career. Saturday also marks the return of redshirt junior Kevin Norstrem at 141 pounds. Norstrem was an NCAA qualifier in 2015 and holds a career record of 23-18.
