NORMAN, Okla. - The 23rd-ranked Virginia Tech wrestling team fell to No. 10 Oklahoma, 19-12, Friday night at the Lloyd Noble Center despite four wins on the evening, including an upset of the No. 9 man in the country at 149 pounds.
At 133 pounds, top-ranked Devin Carter used four takedowns to dominate the action against No. 11 Jordan Keller, downing him 8-4.
The big upset of the night came at 149 pounds as Tech’s unranked Nick Brascetta - a true freshman - rallied to beat No. 9 Nick Lester 5-3 in sudden victory at 149 pounds. Leading 3-0 late in the match, Lester was dinged for his second stall warning to give Brascetta his first point. Brascetta then got a takedown with 14 seconds left to force the overtime, where he picked up a takedown with 17 seconds left to pick up the big win.
At 174 pounds, Chris Moon picked up a pair of takedowns and controlled the pace in picking up a 5-1 win over Nolan McBryde. Tech’s final win came at heavyweight as Chris Penny defeated Kyle Colling 4-2.
Tech (6-4) will be back in action Sunday, taking on No. 25 Old Dominion at home at 6 p.m., following the Tech women’s basketball game. Admission to the wrestling match is free.
