GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the indoor track & field all-conference academic team, featuring nine members of Virginia Tech's squad as announced on Wednesday.
The men’s team collected seven honors, highlighted by five-time all-American Thomas Curtin. All-American honorable mention Torben Laidig was named to the academic squad for the second time while Curtin earned it for the first. Laidig is the current Virginia Tech and ACC record holder in the indoor pole vault. Darren Barlow and James Steck also garnered their second honor on Wednesday. Jared Bane, Vincent Ciattei, and Daniel Jaskowak rounded out their group with their first all-ACC academic honor. The All-ACC Men’s Academic Team includes 24 student-athletes that earned All-America and/or All-ACC honors during the 2015-16 season.
Indoor ACC champion Hanna Green is a two-time honoree for Tech women while Erica Hjerpe collected the honor for the first time. Green is a four-time all-American, placing section at the NCAA indoor championship in March. Hjerpe ranks eighth in program history in the indoor pole vault. The 2015-16 All-ACC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Academic Team features 43 student-athletes that earned All-America and/or All-ACC honors this past season.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The Tech track & field team is slated to compete at the Radford Invite and Payton Jordan Meet this weekend.
