Schiesl earns All-American at NCAA Championships
Junior diver finishes ninth for honorable mention All-American honors

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Virginia Tech junior diver Ben Schiesl finished ninth to claim All-American honorable mention honors on Thursday at the 2018 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.
Schiesl qualified for the consolation finals after finishing fifteenth in the prelims with a score of 337.75. He came back for the final round to score a 368.85 to claim ninth overall and the top-spot in the B final, earning his first All-American honors of his career.
Fellow junior Norbert Szabo was the top finisher for the Hokies on the swimming side. He claimed 18th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:43.11.
Freshman Lane Stone nabbed 29th in the 500 free after a time of 4:17.55 while Ian Ho was 34th in the 50 free with a time of 19.48.
The Hokies will be back in the pool on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. ET for the prelims of the 200 free, 100 breaststroke and 3-meter diving.
