Nazieblo earns All-American on final day of NCAA Championships

Tech senior earns All-American honorable mention in 200 fly for fourth time

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Klaudia Nazieblo earned All-American honorable mention honors in the 200 fly for the fourth time in her career on Saturday during the final day of the 2018 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at McCorkle Pavilion.

Nazieblo claimed 14th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.69, just 100th of a second off her Virginia Tech record setting time of 1:56.68. With the event she added her seventh overall All-American recognition of her four-year career and her third of this year’s NCAAs.

“Four scored performances and five honorable mention All-Americans is something we are very proud of,” said head coach Ned Skinner. “We are so happy that Ashley [Buchter], Maggie [Gruber], Klaudia and Adriana [Grabski] all finished their outstanding careers at NCAAs and we appreciate all they have done for our program. We are proud of our championship season though we know there is much more we can accomplish.”

Chloe Hicks was 38th in the 200 back with a time of 1:55.33. On the boards, Ashlynn Peters was 23rd on the platform with a score of 236.70 while Ashley Buchter finished 42nd with a tally of 204.30.

In the final event of the weekend, the Hokies secured 23rd in the 400 free relay behind swims from Adriana Grabski, Maggie Gruber, Joelle Vereb and Danielle Griggs as the group put up a time of 3:17.66.

The Hokies will be back in the pool next week for the NCAA Men’s Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
