Tech set for 2018 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships
Hokies compete in Columbus, Ohio beginning Thursday

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s swimming and diving team sends nine to compete at the 2018 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships beginning Thursday morning at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.

COMPETING FOR THE HOKIES
Reka Gyorgy – The Tech sophomore will be the first in the pool for the Hokies, competing Thursday morning in the prelims of the 200 IM. On Friday, she will take to the pool for the 400 IM in which she enters the event with the eighth fastest time in the field. She claimed the ACC title in the 400 IM and finished eighth at last season’s NCAA meet. Gyorgy will wrap up the meet as a member of the 400 free relay team.

Joelle Vereb – The freshman has already etched her name in the Tech record books, entering NCAAs with the 19th fastest time and the second fastest in program history in the 100 breaststroke. She is just the second Hokie to record a sub-minute mark in the event. She is also a member of the 200 and 400 medley relay teams which enter the meet with the 11th and 19th fastest times, respectively.

Chloe Hicks – The sophomore makes her second trip to the national meet and is coming off an eighth place finish at the ACC Championships in the 200 back where she swam 1:53.91. She cut her time in the event to qualify with a 1:53.64.

Klaudia Nazieblo – The senior makes her fourth trip to the NCAAs, having earned All-American honors the past three years including a seventh place finish in the 200 Fly in 2016. Nazieblo is coming of an ACC Championships where she finished with a bronze in the 200 fly while also taking fifth in the 100 backstroke. In addition, Nazieblo will swim the 200 and 400 medley relays for the Hokies with the teams seeded 11th and 19th, respectively.

Ashlynn Peters – The Tech junior will represent the Hokies in all three diving events at the NCAA Championships. She was named the Diver of the Meet from the ACC Championships after being the only diver in the field to advance to the finals in all three apparatuses. Peters finished second at zones in the 1-meter and took fourth in the platform to earn the automatic bids. She was ninth in the 3-meter at the regional event to secure an at-large spot.

Ashley Buchter – The senior is appearing at NCAAs for the fourth time in her career. She earned the automatic bid to the NCAAs after finishing sixth in the 3-meter and took seventh in the platform to earn the at-large spot.
