Hokies set record on day one of ACC Championships

Women's 200 medley relay team sets new program mark

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Virginia Tech women’s swimming team set a new program record in the 200-medley relay on Wednesday during the opening day of the 2018 ACC Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Tech’s team of Klaudia Nazieblo, Joelle Vereb, Maggie Gruber and Adriana Grabski recorded a time of 1:36.35 to grab second in the league. In addition, the time gave the Hokies a NCAA qualifying standard. The mark also set a program record, breaking the previous record set (1:37.96) by the same group last week at the Technotational.

The Hokies followed up with a fifth place finish in the 800 free relay with the group of Reka Gyorgy, Grabski, Nazieblo and Chloe Hicks turning in a time of 7:07.49 – a NCAA provisional time.

Ashlynn Peters finished fifth in the women’s 1-meter event with a score of 291.95.

On the men’s side, Thomas Shinholser placed 11th in the 3-meter (327.50) followed by teammate Benjamin Schiesl (325.96).

The Hokies will be back in the pool at 10 a.m. on Thursday for the prelims of the 500 free, 200 IM and the 50 free. Men’s 1-meter diving prelims will begin at noon.
