Tech finished fifth at last season’s ACC Women's Championship fueled by conference titles from Reka Gyorgy in the 400 IM and Ashlynn Peters in 3-meter diving. Both will be looking to defend their gold this year. Gyorgy also added a fourth place finish in the 200 IM and has seven top finishes in 2017-18 while Peters has finished in the top-three 10 times this season.
Klaudia Nazieblo, a three-time All-ACC honoree, also returns having captured silver in the 200 fly (2017), 400 IM and 200 fly (2016) and third in the 100 back, 200 fly and 400 medley relay (2015). Nazieblo has six first place individual finishes this season.
Maggie Gruber set out last season, but had five top-eight finishes in 2016 including the 400 medley relay (4th), 100 fly (5th), 200 free relay (7th), 200 fly and 200 medley relay (8th). Gruber has 15 top-three finishes this season. Adriana Grabski also took fourth last season, helping the Hokies in the 800 free relay. She has 14 top-three finishes on the season.
On the boards for the men, Thomas Shinholser finished third on the platform in 2015 and finished fifth last season. Mauro Castro-Silva was third in the platform in 2016 while adding fourth in the 3-meter and sixth in the 1-meter.
The ACC enters championship week with teams ranked in the CSCAA Top-25: Virginia (7th), NC State (10th), Louisville (14th), North Carolina (18th), Notre Dame (19th), Duke (25th) while the Hokies are receiving votes. Tech women have ACC dual wins over Duke and Florida State this season.
