Hokies set for Technotational

BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech men's and women's swimming and diving team is set to host the Technotational this weekend as South Carolina, William & Mary, Towson, James Madison (women) and North Florida (women) join the Hokies at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, Feb. 2-4.

IN THE RANKINGS
Tech is receiving votes in the CSCAA women’s poll while the men’s team enters the weekend ranked 20th. South Carolina’s men are the only other team ranked, entering at 25th.

THE HOKIES
This marks the final regular-season meet for Virginia Tech before the Hokies head to Greensboro, North Carolina for the 2018 ACC Championships. Last time out, Tech battled against ranked-foes Ohio State and Michigan. Ian Ho led the men’s team with a win in the 50 free and joined teammates Jake Lamparella, David Herbert and Thomas Hallock for a second place finish in the 400 free relay. Maggie Gruber took the top finish for the women’s team, winning the 100 back. She followed up with a second place finish in the 100 fly.

THE GAMECOCKS
South Carolina finished first against UNCW, Wingate and ECU the last time out, winning 16 events combined between the men’s and women’s teams. Emma Barksdale was named CollegeSwimming SEC Swimmer of the Week after recording two of the nation’s top-times at the meet and winning three individual events.

THE TRIBE
William & Mary defeated Davidson the last time out with Morgan Smith earning CAA Swimmer of the Week honors after winning the 400 IM , setting a new facility record. On the men’s side, the Tribe set nine records.

THE TIGERS
Towson knocked off Loyola Maryland last week on both the men’s and women’s side. The Tigers swept the CAA weekly honors. Annemarie Schnoor and Emily Wilson were named women’s swimmer and diver of the week, respectively. Both won two events for the Tigers. Jake Saunderson and Will Canny claimed the awards for the men’s team after finishing in the top-two in all of their events.

THE DUKES
James Madison defeated Bucknell and Richmond two weeks ago. Bonnie Zhang was named the CAA Swimmer of the Week while Hope Byrum earned diver honors. Zhang won six events over the two meets including the 100- and 200-free, 200 back, 200 medley relay, 400- and 200- free relays.

THE OSPREYS
North Florida fell to UNC Asheville to wrap up the Ospreys’ conference slate. Sydney Groth picked up the only win for UNF in the meet, taking the top spot in the 100 fly.

UP NEXT: The Hokies are set for the 2018 ACC Championships, beginning Feb. 14-17 with the women’s swimming championships as well as the men’s and women’s diving championships. Tech will compete in the men’s swimming championships Feb. 21-24. All events will be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
