NORFOLK, Va. - The Virginia Tech swimming and diving program has again been honored for its academic excellence by the CSCAA as both the men’s and women’s squads have been designated as a Scholar All-America team for the second-consecutive semester and 12 student-athletes have recently been named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The selections recognize students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The team Scholar All-America honors are given to team who finish with a 3.0 or higher for the spring semester.
In addition to the 853 first-team selections, 894 students were named as Honorable Mentioned selections. These students have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at a regional or zone qualifying meet. Of these, an additional 135 students will be in Indianapolis or Omaha vying for a spot on the United States Olympic team.
Junior Fiona Donnelly, sophomore Adriana Grabski, freshman Ashlynn Peters and junior Leah Piemonte were each named to the CSCAA’s first team while senior Gabrielle Bishop, junior Auriane De Premilhat, senior Holly Harper and freshman Leah Rogers received honorable mention accolades.
Grabski and Harper will be representing the Tech women’s swimming and diving program at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha, Neb., beginning this weekend. The Hokies turned in a team GPA of 3.37.
On the men’s side, junior Brandon Fiala and senior Logan Stevens were awarded first team honors while freshman Michael Craddock and senior Michael Szuba were named honorable mention by the CSCAA.
The men’s squad achieved a team GPA of 3.09 and Fiala and Stevens are two Hokies that will also be competing at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
