BLACKSBURG The Virginia Tech swimming & diving teams are set to host men’s teams from UNC Wilmington and Georgia Tech and the women’s team from Miami Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center for the H2Okies’ 2015 Senior Day.
The H2Okies come into this weekend’s meet following a split with Virginia last weekend. The 12th-ranked Tech men picked up a big win over the No. 21 Cavaliers, bumping their record to 9-1. Following a performance where he won two individual events and four relay events, senior Morgan Latimer was named ACC Male Swimmer of the Week.
The lady H2Okies suffered a hard-fought loss to No. 6 Virginia to bring their record to 7-3, but Tech senior diver Kaylea Arnett was named ACC Female Diver of the week following the meet. She won the 1-meter, setting a new pool record with her 323.40 score at Virginia’s Aquatic and Fitness Center.
The women from Miami enter Saturday’s competition with a 2-2 record after splitting in a dual-meet with Rutgers and Tulane a few weeks ago. The Hurricanes fell to Rutgers but picked up the win over Tulane.
The Georgia Tech men boast an 8-3 dual-meet record and are on the verge of being ranked, receiving votes in the top-25 poll. Last weekend, the Yellow Jackets earned a big win over Duke, 200-88. They are currently 3-1 in ACC meets.
The final team in the competition, UNC Wilmington, brings a 3-4 men’s squad into town to face the H2Okies and the Jackets. Last weekend, the team fell to Wingate, 129-133.
