June 11, 2018
BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced that the Hokies have reached an agreement with Middle Tennessee State to play a two-game, home-and-home football series in 2020-21.
The two schools will square off for the first time when Tech visits Murfreesboro, Tennessee on Sept. 19, 2020. Middle Tennessee will make the return trip to Blacksburg when the teams meet in Lane Stadium on Sept. 11, 2021.
Middle Tennessee State replaces the University of Michigan on the schedule for the 2020 and 2021 seasons after the Wolverines terminated those dates earlier this year.
The 2020 contest will mark Tech’s initial appearance in the state of Tennessee since the Hokies met the Tennessee Volunteers in the historic Battle at Bristol on Setpember 10, 2016, a contest that was witnessed by 156,990 fans, the largest crowd in college football history.
