Fuente confirms that Jeremy Webb has undergone surgery

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente confirmed Friday that incoming JUCO transfer Jeremy Webb underwent surgery earlier this week to repair a left Achilles injury.

“While we share Jeremy’s disappointment that he will miss the 2018 season, our medical staff is confident that he will make a complete recovery,” Fuente said. “We look forward to Jeremy beginning the rehab process as soon as possible.”

Webb (6’3” 190 lbs.) racked up 29 tackles and four pass breakups playing defensive back in all 10 games at ASA College in 2017. The East Mims, Florida native turned in a career-high seven tackles against Mesa Community College, helping the No. 16 Avengers to a 29-23 victory in the Valley of the Sun Bowl to close the season with a 9-1 record and a Northeast Football Conference Championship. He was named first-team Northeast Football All-Conference this past season.

Fuente also indicated on Friday that Adonis Alexander is no longer participating in team-related activities related to the Virginia Tech football program.

“We wish Adonis the very best as he determines the next steps he wishes to pursue,” Fuente said.

Alexander (6’3” 207 lbs.) has played in 34 games (15 starts) over the past three seasons for the Hokies The Charlotte, North Carolina native played in nine contests (two starts) in 2017, recording 27 tackles (23 solo), a sack, an interception, a fumble recovery and five passes defensed.
