Three-Time Pro Bowler DeAngelo Hall concludes storied career

TV work, coaching or a front-office position could be next for Tech star

DeAngelo Hall is contemplating his next career move involving the game of football, it just won’t be in a playing capacity. While it’s uncertain if Hall has filed the official retirement paperwork with the NFL office, he told Michael Phillips of the Richmond Times-Dispatch on Monday that he will be hanging up his cleats.

The eighth overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft by Atlanta, Hall played in 171 career regular season NFL games (160 starts). He earned Pro Bowl berths with the Falcons following the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Following a brief stint with Oakland in 2008, he joined the Redskins later that year, where he spent the remainder of his pro career. In 10 seasons with the Redskins, he appeared in 106 games (97 starts) and earned a trip to the Pro Bowl following the 2010 season.

The NFL’s active leading interceptor prior to his announcement with 43 career INTs, Hall returned five of those for touchdowns. In total, he finished his career with 10 touchdowns thanks to five scores on fumble returns. He owns a share of an NFL record with four INTs in a single game, doing it at Chicago on Oct. 24, 2010.

A standout performer at Deep Creek High School, the Chesapeake, Virginia native appeared in four career postseason games, two apiece with Atlanta and Washington. He also racked up 140 passes defensed, 15 fumble recoveries and 11 forced fumbles during his NFL tenure.

In 36 career games at Virginia Tech, Hall returned five punts for touchdowns while registering eight interceptions with one TD. He also added one touchdown apiece as a rusher and a receiver. Perhaps his most memorable moment at Lane Stadium was the iconic “Give it to me, Roscoe” strip and scoop of Miami RB Roscoe Parrish that resulted in a 28-yard fumble return TD as the Hokies registered a 31-7 win over No. 2 Miami on Nov. 1, 2003.
