Five Hokies selected in memorable 2018 NFL Draft

The Edmunds brothers made headlines on Thursday night as Tremaine and Terrell became the first pair of brothers to both be selected in the first round of the same draft, but there was plenty more action on Saturday as DT Tim Settle, G Wyatt Teller and CB Greg Stroman all went off the board.

VIRGINIA TECH DRAFT NOTES

· At least one Virginia Tech player has been selected every season dating back to 1993.

· Thirteen Tech alums have been first-round picks.

· Terrell and Tremaine Edmunds are the first set of brothers to be selected in the same NFL Draft class since David (D6-Arizona) and Chris Carter (D5-Pittsburgh) in 2011. They are the only brothers to both be selected in the first round of the same class.

· Over the past 25 years, only two other sets have brothers have been tabbed in the same NFL Draft class.

o 2004 – Shawn Andrews (D1-Philadelphia) & Stacey Andrews (D4-Cincinnati)

o 1997 – Ronde Barber (D2-Tampa Bay) & Tiki Barber (D3-N.Y. Giants)

· The eldest Edmunds brother (Trey) is currently a running back with the New Orleans Saints after lettering at Tech from 2013-15.

· The patriarch of the Edmunds family (Ferrell) entered the NFL as a third-round pick of Miami (73rd overall) in the 1988 NFL Draft. He played in 89 career games for the Dolphins and Seahawks, catching 148 passes for 1,894 yards with 12 TDs. He earned Pro Bowl berths for Miami following the 1989 and 1990 seasons.

· Buffalo (Tremaine Edmunds, Teller) and Washington (Settle, Stroman) both selected two Hokies. Here’s a look at the previous time a team took multiple Hokies in the same draft dating back to 2000.

o CB Kyle Fuller (D1-Chicago) 14th overall in 2014

o CB Kendall Fuller (D3-Washington) 84th overall in 2015

o Kendall was traded from Washington to Kansas City in the off-season, while Kyle signed a long-term contract with Chicago. Corey spent training camp with New Orleans in 2018.

· Since the arrival of Bud Foster at Virginia Tech in 1987, a total of 53 defensive players have been drafted.

· The five players drafted in 2018 were Tech’s most since having five players taken in 2010.
