Tremaine Edmunds named recipient of the MacArthur Memorial Award
Edmunds named top collegiate player in Virginia by Norfolk Sports Club

BLACKSBURG – Tremaine Edmunds will be honored Thursday night in Norfolk as the 2017 recipient of the General Douglas MacArthur Memorial Award as top collegiate player from Virginia. The Norfolk Sports Club will honor Edmunds at the 73rd Annual Norfolk Sports Club Jamboree at the Norfolk Marriott.
Frank Beamer, will present the honor to Edmunds at the event, while former NFL head coach and current Arizona State head coach Herm Edwards will serve as the Jamboree’s keynote speaker.

Edmunds earned third-team All-America honors from the Associated Press and first-team All-ACC accolades after turning in his second straight 100-tackle campaign for the Hokies in 2017. The Danville, Virginia native finished the season ranked sixth in the ACC with 109 total tackles. His 60 solo tackles ranked fourth in the conference and his 14 tackles for loss tied for second among ACC linebackers and ranked eighth overall in the league.
He led the Hokies in tackles, tackles for loss, sacks (5.5) and forced fumbles (3), helped anchor a Virginia Tech defense that paced the Power Five with 21 Red Zone scores and allowed and three shutouts, the most in the nation. One of three brothers to play for the Hokies, he earned ACC Linebacker of the Week honors following a 10-0 win at Virginia (11/24) and was one of five finalists for the Butkus Award, presented to the nation’s top linebacker.
