WR James Clark joins Hokies as graduate transfer from Ohio State

Sprinter competed in track at NCAA Championships, eligible to play football for Tech in 2017

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente welcomed wide receiver James Clark to the football program on Monday. Clark is enrolled in summer classes today after transferring from Ohio State. He will have one year of eligibility to compete in 2017.

Clark (5-10, 186) saw duty in 28 career games at Ohio State, playing in all 13 games for the Buckeyes in 2016. He registered six catches for 47 yards a year ago, in addition to contributing on special teams. He caught a pair of passes at Oklahoma and had a season-long 12-yard reception at Wisconsin.

On the track, the New Smyrna Beach, Florida native was part of the second-fastest 4x100-meter relay team in school history (39:01). He recently ran the lead leg for the Buckeyes at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. He began competing with the track squad in 2016 and finished ninth at the Big Ten Indoor Championships in the 60-meter dash (6.87).

A first-team Florida 6A all-state pick by The Miami Herald as a senior, Clark totaled 87 receptions for 1,954 yards and 29 total touchdowns during his prep career at New Smyrna Beach High School. On the track, his best time in the 100-meter dash was 10.48. He placed fifth in the 100 and sixth in the 200 at the 2012 Florida outdoor state track championships.
