BLACKSBURG – Saturday is the 2017 Spring Game at Virginia Tech, as the Hokies host an intra-squad scrimmage at Lane Stadium. Here's a quick rundown of information for fans to answer the most frequently asked questions leading up to the game.

Q. Will any events or activities surrounding the Spring Game be impacted by weather?
The safety of our fans and student-athletes is always our highest priority. The @VT_Football Twitter feed and HokieSports.com will be the first places to check for information should any adjustments be made to Saturday’s schedule of events. Fans should plan accordingly for the possibility of precipitation and keep up-to-date on the most current forecasts.

Saturday’s high temperatures are anticipated in the mid-to-upper 60s with a 90 percent chance of rain showers and thunderstorms. Winds light and variable. Sunrise is at approximately 6:37 a.m. and setting at 8:03 p.m. Humidity will be around 80 percent.

Q: Will student-athletes sign autographs after the Spring Game?

Weather permitting, fans will be allowed on the field to get autographs from our student-athletes following a cooling-off period. Schedule posters will be available for fans. This autograph session will last approximately 60 minutes. This event is subject to change based on weather conditions. Fans will be notified of any adjustments or changes on the scoreboard and via PA announcements.

Q. What time is the game and what time do stadium games open?
Saturday’s kickoff time is set for 2:30 p.m. ET at Lane Stadium. Stadium gates open at 12:30 p.m. Beamer Way will close to traffic at 11 a.m. Seating is available on the West Side, South End Zone (upper and lower) and North End Zone. Due to renovations, the East Stands (upper and lower) will be closed.

Q: Where can I park?

Parking is available in the lots surrounding the stadium on a first-come, first-served basis. RV parking is also on a first-come, first-served basis. The back section of Lot 3 has 18 spaces, once these are filled, RVs will be directed to the cage lot or “B” lot (Prices Fork). RV parking is available after 5 p.m. on Friday.

ADA parking has been reserved in Lot 3. There will also be courtesy shuttles to transport patrons from the lot to the stadium. ADA seating is available on the West Side and Upper South End Zone.

Q: What is the format and scoring system for Saturday’s game?
Saturday’s game will consist of a controlled offense vs. defense scrimmage with some limited special teams situations. Coach Fuente will dress the defense in Maroon (visitor) and the offense in White (home). Quarterbacks will wear Orange.

Rules and protocol (subject to change):

  • Game will consist of four, 12-minute quarters (running clock) and a 10-minute halftime
  • Quarterbacks will be in Orange uniforms with no contact
  • No rush on field goals and PATs
  • In punting situations, only the punter, snapper and return man will be on the field
  • Ball will be placed where the return man fields the ball
  • No kickoffs, ball will be placed on the 35-yard line following scores

Scoring (Defense can only score one way per drive)

Touchdown = 6 points
Field Goal = 3 points
Extra Point = 1 point

Defense
Turnover = 7 points
3 & Out = 3 points
Defensive Stop = 1 point

Q. What time does Hokie Village open and close?
A blast from Skipper will officially open Hokie Village at 11 a.m. on the field directly west of Lane Stadium across Beamer Way. Hokie Village closes at 1:45 p.m. Hokie Village will feature food trucks from Papa John’s, Toasted by Casey, and Concessions while Tropical Smoothie Café will be giving away samples. Virginia Tech men’s and women’s basketball and wrestling teams will be signing autographs. There will be lawn games set-up, a chipping station hosted by the PGA and the Commonwealth Cup will be on display.

Q: Will the game be televised or broadcast on radio?
Jon Laaser and Mike Burnop will call the action on the Virginia Tech IMG Sports Network with exclusive in-game sideline interviews with coaches and notable returning Tech alums by Andrew Allegretta. Fans in-stadium can listen on 105.3 FM. The broadcast will also be available on hokiesports.com on the HokiesXtra App and via TuneIn.

The game will not be televised, but HokieVision will provide full highlights and postgame coverage following the game. Live in-game Tweets will be provided by @VT_Football.

Q. How can I follow the Hokies online?
HokieSports.com will provide comprehensive coverage throughout game day, bringing you closer to the Hokies than anyone else can with photos, videos and insights from inside the team. In addition, @VT_Football on Twitter will have live pregame, in-game and postgame updates.

Q: Are there any road construction issues that could impact my travel plans?

The work has started on the 460/Southgate Connector project. This will impact travel on game day. Current conditions read on the VDot website as follows: Lane closures and activity in the work zone continue. Motorists should use caution in the area and expect delays and lane closures periodically. The athletic department will continually update fans on conditions throughout the season.

Q. Is the Clear Bag Policy in Effect?

The Hokies have a clear bag policy that began for the 2016 season. The following are approved to be carried into Lane Stadium:

Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”

One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)

Small clutch bag approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap and no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”

Q. What items are restricted or permitted at Lane Stadium?
Lane Stadium has adopted several “best practices” that have been implemented at many major collegiate, professional and entertainment venues nationwide. Providing a safe environment for our guests remains an ongoing priority at Virginia Tech, along with increasing the comfort and efficiency of all individuals entering the facility.
