Coach Fuente invites Virginia Tech students to practice tonight

Gate 6 opens at approximately 6:30 p.m. - Take selfies with Hokies, get sneak preview of team prior to spring game

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente invited all Virginia Tech students to attend next this evening’s football practice at Lane Stadium. Current Virginia Tech students with a valid ID may enter Lane Stadium via gate 6 starting at approximately 6:30 p.m. and will be permitted to view practice from the lower level of the west stands (press box side).

The first 2,000 Virginia Tech students who have renewed their student season ticket holders will receive a complimentary stadium blanket as they depart the stadium.

“The reputation of Hokies’ fans and their ability to make Lane Stadium one of the toughest places for opponents to play was something I was well aware of when I arrived at Virginia Tech,” Fuente said. “Last season, I got to experience it firsthand, and it was awesome!

“Our student section helps bring electricity and excitement to our team and the entire stadium on game days,” he continued. “Based on the reaction from the students last year and the positive feedback I received from our student-athletes, this event was something we wanted to do again as a way to express our appreciation to our students at Virginia Tech.”

All doors at Gate 6 will be open to help expedite ingress to the stadium. Restroom facilities will be open, but no concessions will be available. Students will also be able to check in on the Gobbler Student Rewards App to receive five points. Voice of the Hokies, Jon Laaser, will once again serve as the event’s emcee.

Still photography is allowed, but Coach Fuente asks that no video be shot during the practice session. Following the conclusion of practice, students will be permitted on the field for 15 minutes to take selfies with football student-athletes (no autographs permitted). Once 15-minute period concludes, the team and students will clear the field.

Students can share their selfies and images from practice utilizing the hashtag #ThisIsHome. The best submissions will be displayed on the video scoreboard at Lane Stadium and shared via @VT_Football on Twitter.

Media are also welcome to attend Tuesday’s event and will be made aware of details of how they can participate via a media advisory.

Kickoff for the 2016 Maroon-Orange Spring Game is set for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 22. The event is free and open to the public.
