Hokies Finish Season Ranked No. 16 in Both AP, Coaches Polls

Virginia Tech Football boasts highest final rankings since 2010

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech finished No. 16 in the final rankings of The Associated Press and in the Amway USA Today Coaches Poll, which were both released Tuesday. It was the highest season-ending ranking for the Hokies in both polls since coming in at No. 16 (AP) and No. 15 (Coaches) in 2010.

In his first season in Blacksburg, head coach Justin Fuente guided the Hokies to a 10-4 record, a victory in the Belk Bowl and a berth in the Dr Pepper ACC Championship Game – their first appearance in the league title game since 2011. Those 10 victories were the most ever by a first-year Virginia Tech head coach.

The Hokies extended their streak of bowl appearances to 24 straight seasons, the longest streak in the nation recognized by the NCAA. Virginia Tech capped the season with a 35-24 victory in the Belk Bowl against Arkansas, orchestrating the largest comeback in school history. Down 24-0 at halftime, the Hokies rallied to score 35 unanswered points. The club also rallied from a pair of 17-point deficits at Notre Dame to record a 34-31 victory earlier in the season. The Hokies also continued their dominance of in-state rival Virginia, defeating the Cavaliers for the 13th consecutive year.
