ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Virginia Tech senior Jonathan McLaughlin has accepted an invitation to participate in the 2017 East-West Shrine Game.
McLaughlin will represent the Hokies, who have now sent at least one player to the event for five straight seasons. Last year, DT Luther Maddy played for the West Team, while Detrick Bonner was named a captain for the game in 2015. Derrick Hopkins played in the 2014 game and Marcus Davis and Corey Fuller were in the 2013 contest.
The Mauldin, S.C, product has started all 12 games for Tech this season and was named a third-team All-ACC offensive tackle by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association on Monday. McLaughlin has started in every game he has played for the Hokies, a team-high 47 starts overall, and is tied with fellow offensive lineman Augie Conte with 25 consecutive starts.
McLaughlin joins RB Sam Rogers, who accepted his invitation to the Reese’s Senior Bowl, as Tech seniors who will be participating in a postseason all-star game.
The 92nd East-West Shrine Game will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 3 p.m. EST at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The game will be televised on the NFL Network. CLICK HERE for more information on the event.
