Evans named a Semifinalist for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award

This is Evans' second semifinalist honor of the season

TYLER, Texas – Virginia Tech quarterback Jerod Evans has been named one of 16 Semifinalists for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, which recognizes the nation's outstanding Division I offensive player of the year who meets one or more of the organization's criteria.

This year many talented athletes with ties to the state of Texas have emerged as candidates for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award with this year’s candidates including nine quarterbacks, including the 2015 winner, three running backs, and four wide receivers. Evans' numbers this season are on pace for one of the most productive seasons for a quarterback in program history. He can finish the season with single-season school records in completions, completion percentage, passing yards, passing touchdowns, total yards of offense and total touchdowns along with rushing attempts and rushing yards by a quarterback.

His current numbers include 210 completions on 327 attempts for a 64.2 percentage. He has thrown for 2,786 yards and 24 touchdowns opposed to just five interceptions. He also leads the team with 150 rushing attempts, 675 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns. He is just 40 yards shy of the most total yards ever in a single season and already owns the record for total touchdowns with 31.

Finalists for the award will be selected from the semifinalists and announced on December 7, 2016. The winner will be announced at the award banquet in Tyler, Texas on January 11, 2017. To see the official release and the 16 players on the list, CLICK HERE.
