GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second straight week, a Virginia Tech student-athlete has been recognized as an ACC Football Player of the Week as the Hokies junior kicker Joey Slye, after a record performance at Pittsburgh, is selected as the Specialist of the Week. Last week, three Hokies earned a Player of the Week honor.

In the Hokies’ 39-36 win at Pittsburgh (10/27), Slye connected on a career-high six FG attempts and also made three extra points, giving him 21 points. The 21 points broke the school record for most points in a game by a kicker set by Mickey Thomas with 18 vs. Vanderbilt (11/4/89).

The six FGs made tied a single game record for makes at Tech - set by Thomas with six in that Vanderbilt game - and in the ACC - now done five times. The last conference player to make six FGs was Clemson’s Richard Jackson vs. Boston College (9/19/09).

The Stafford, Virginia, product has now made at least two FGs in a game four times this season, 18 times in his career; three in a game twice this season, nine times in his career; and four in a game once this year and three times in his career.

The effort also moved with into second place in the school's record book for most career FGs made with 59. He passed Brandon Pace (2003-06), who finished his career with 58, and Slye is just nine shy of Shayne Graham's school record of 68 makes.
