
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three Virginia Tech student-athletes – including brothers Tremaine Edmunds and Terrell Edmunds – have been recognized as ACC Football Players of the Week as the Hokies swept the defensive awards with Woody Baron also earning a nod.
Tremaine Edmunds earned ACC Linebacker of the Week honors for his play in the Hokies’ 37-16 win over Miami, while Terrell Edmunds was voted the Defensive Back of the Week. They are the first brothers to be recognized as ACC Football Players of the Week during the same week of a season. Virginia Tech’s Woody Baron was named the Defensive Lineman of the Week.
DEFENSIVE LINE – Woody Baron, Virginia Tech, Sr., DT, 6-1, 275, Nashville, Tenn.
Baron posted a team-high 2.5 quarterback sacks to lead a season-best effort of eight total sacks by the Hokies’ defense in last Thursday night’s key 37-16 Coastal Division win over visiting Miami. Baron finished with 4.5 tackles for loss and six total tackles as Virginia Tech limited Miami to 16 points and a 3-of 17 showing on third- and fourth-down conversions.
LINEBACKER – Tremaine Edmunds, Virginia Tech, So., LB, 6-5, 236, Danville, Va.
Edmunds led Virginia Tech with 10 tackles in the win over Miami. His efforts included seven solo tackles, a quarterback sack, one quarterback hurry and two tackles for loss as the Hokies limited Miami to 42 net yards rushing and 15 first downs. Edmunds currently ranks second on the team with 54 total tackles, and his 11 tackles for loss leads the squad.
DEFENSIVE BACK – Terrell Edmunds, Virginia Tech, So.-r, DB, 6-1, 205, Danville, Va.
In addition to an acrobatic interception in the second quarter that thwarted a Miami drive, Edmunds recorded seven tackles in last Thursday night’s 37-16 Virginia Tech win. Edmunds ranks fourth among Hokie defenders this season with 37 tackles, and his three interceptions ties for the team lead.

Tech QB Jerod Evans was also recognized for his play in the win over Miami last Thursday night. He was 21 of 33 for 259 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 13 times for 98 yards and a score in a 37-16 triumph over the Hurricanes.
He has been named to the Davey O'Brien "Great 8" list and has a chance to be the "Quarterback of the Week" which will be named on Tuesday.
Evans was also selected one of eighth Manning Award Stars of the Week and now, college football fans can go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Thursday at 11 a.m. (Central), the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. VOTE HERE!
