HOMECOMING FOR HOKIES VS. ECU

• The Hokies are 2-1 under Justin Fuente after a 49-0 win vs. Boston College (9/17). 

• Fuente is seeking to register a third straight win at Lane Stadium to begin his Tech tenure. Lane opened in 1965 and Jerry Claiborne won his first three games in the facility. 

• ECU is led by first-year head coach Scottie Montgomery. The Pirates are 2-1 after suffering a 20-15 loss at South Carolina (9/17). 

• Virginia Tech is 13-7 all-time against ECU, but is seeking to snap a two-game losing streak to the Pirates. 

• ECU owns a six-game victory streak vs. ACC foes, including a 33-30 win vs. NC State (9/10). 

• Virginia Tech was the last ACC team to defeat ECU, getting a 15-10 win (9/14/13).

• Tech ranks second in the FBS in total defense (204.7 ypg) behind only Florida (129.7 ypg) and leads the nation in pass defense (80.3 ypg). 

• Last week’s 49-0 win vs. BC (9/17) was the 31st under the tenure of defensive coordinator Bud Foster. The Hokies are 24-6 (.800) in games immediately following those previous 30 shutouts. 

• Dating back to 1996, the Hokies are 56-0 at home when holding foes to 10 points or fewer.

ECU 30-SECOND SCOUTING REPORT

• ECU has thrown seven TDs and three interceptions in 2016.
• The Pirates have averaged 180.7 rushing ypg, while allowing 160.0 rushing ypg.
• ECU has converted 48.9 percent (22/45) on third down, while allowing foes to convert 34.1 (14/41) percent.
• The Pirates jumped out to a 17-0 lead vs. Western Carolina (9/3) and 12-0 lead vs. NC State (9/10), but fell behind 17-0 in a 20-15 loss at South Carolina (9/17).
• Virginia Tech has outscored its opponents 35-6 in the first quarter.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON HOKIES, PIRATES

• LB Andrew Motuapuaka leads Tech and ranks second in the ACC with 29 tackles (13 solo). CB Brandon Facyson is tied for second in the ACC with five passes defensed and CB Greg Stroman is tied for the ACC lead with two interceptions.
• After losing nine fumbles in their first two games, the Hokies didn’t commit a fumble vs. Boston College (9/17).
• Virginia Tech foes have had 58.6 percent (34 of 58) of their points set up by Hokies’ turnovers.
• Four opponent TD drives have started inside Hokies’ territory, including three at the Virginia Tech 10-yard line or closer.
• Following this week’s game, Virginia Tech enjoys a bye before its initial ACC road game of 2016 at UNC (10/8).
