BLACKSBURG – Sophomore Travon McMillian and junior wide receiver Isaiah Ford have been selected to the Maxwell Award Preseason Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club has announced.
McMillian was named Honorable Mention All-ACC last season after rushing for 1,043 yards on 200 carries as a redshirt freshman. The Woodbridge, Virginia native, who averaged 80.2 yards on the ground per game, ranked fifth in the conference in rushing and rush attempts. The honor is the first of McMillian’s career.
Ford, the ACC’s top pass catcher from last season, re-wrote the Tech record books as a sophomore as his 75 receptions, 1,164 receiving yards, and 11 touchdown catches set new program single-season records. In the ACC, Ford led the conference in touchdown catches, receiving yards and receiving yards per game.
This preseason, Ford has been tabbed preseason first-team All-ACC and second-team All-America by Athlon Sports.
His 1,164 receiving yards catapulted him to third on the Hokies’ all-time receiving list. With two seasons remaining in Blacksburg, Ford is on pace to break the program’s career touchdown record of 22 held by Antonio Freeman and Jarrett Boykin’s career receiving yard total of 2,884.
Each year the Maxwell Football Club presents the Maxwell Award for the College Player of the Year. This award is presented in honor of Robert W. (Tiny) Maxwell, legendary college player, official and sports columnist.
