ACC announces early-season kickoff times for Hokies
Liberty, Boston College times set as Hokies prep for initial campaign under head coach Justin Fuente

GREENSBORO, N.CThe Atlantic Coast Conference announced times for a number of early-season 2016 games, confirming two more Virginia Tech home kickoffs – 12:30 p.m. vs. Liberty (Sept. 3) and 3:30 p.m. vs. Boston College (Sept. 17).

Season tickets are still available by visiting HokieTickets.com. Tech has made 23 straight bowl appearances – the longest active streak recognized by the NCAA.

It is anticipated that the network and kickoff time for the Pilot Flying J Battle at Bristol vs. Tennessee will be announced shortly. The first football game ever set to be staged at Bristol Motor Speedway – one of racing’s most iconic venues – is expected to shatter college football’s current single-game attendance record of 115,109 (Notre Dame at Michigan in 2013).

Kickoffs for three other games already have been determined, including back-to-back ESPN Thursday night games vs. Miami (7:30 p.m. – Oct. 20) and at Pittsburgh (7:30 p.m. – Oct. 27). Tech is 11-5 in Thursday night games at Lane Stadium. The Hokies also will make their first ever appearance at Notre Dame (3:30 p.m. – Nov. 19).

The ACC Network will be syndicated in more than 100 markets nationally and more than 90 million TV households with three games in the first three weeks, including the debut contest of Justin Fuente as Tech’s head coach against Liberty on Sept. 3. ESPNU will televise the Sept. 17 contest against Boston College.

Virginia Tech will conclude the 2016 regular season with a Commonwealth Cup clash against Virginia at Lane Stadium on Nov. 26. The Hokies have won 12 straight meetings with the Cavaliers and their past eight home games against UVA. Over the past 17 seasons, Virginia Tech has dominated its in-state FBS rival like no other major program, posting a 16-1 record against the Cavaliers over that span.

The 2016 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game, which will be played for the seventh consecutive year in Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium, is scheduled for the first Saturday in December (Dec. 3) and will have a nationally televised kickoff time of either 7:45 p.m. (on ESPN) or 8 p.m. ET (on ABC).
