Fuente signs first Tech player in Evans
The transfer is rated the nation's No. 1 junior-college dual-threat quarterback

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head football coach Justin Fuente announced Wednesday the program has signed a junior college player to a national letter-of-intent (NLI) during the junior college Signing Day. Fuente, who takes over the Hokies’ reigns after the Independence Bowl, officially signed his first commit at Tech, as the program welcomes quarterback Jérod Evans.

Evans, rated as the nation’s No. 1 junior college dual-threat quarterback nationally by 247Sports and the No. 4 overall junior college prospect, is 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds. The Mansfield, Texas, product threw for 3,164 yards and 38 touchdowns, opposed to just three picks, and ran for 414 yards and another four touchdowns this past season for Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas.

The 2015 Southwest Junior College Football Conference Most Valuable Player started his collegiate career at Air Force, but suffered a knee injury and left the academy. He spent the past two seasons at Trinity Valley and will have two years of eligibility left when he arrives on campus.

In all, Evans has completed 249 of 394 passes for 4,165 yards, with 52 touchdowns and five interceptions, in his time at Trinity Valley and added 772 yards and nine scores on the ground.
