
RICHMOND, Va. – The Touchdown Club of Richmond has selected Virginia Tech redshirt-senior Luther Maddy as its Division I Defensive Lineman of the Year and he will be honored at the 2015 Dudley/Lanier Awards Banquet in Richmond on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
Maddy, who will play in the in the 2016 East-West Shrine Game, has started all 12 games for Tech this season and was named a first team All-ACC defensive tackle by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association on Monday. Maddy returned to the Hokies in 2015 after an injury last year and has now played in 55 career games at Tech, tying the school record.
The Delray Beach, Florida, product ended the regular season with 54 tackles (16 solo), including 6.5 for loss and two sacks. Maddy added three quarterback hurries, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery to his totals. His career numbers include 172 total tackles (73 solo), 29.0 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, 45 quarterback hurries and two fumble recoveries.
The Dudley Award Banquet is open to the public and will be held at the Hilton Richmond Hotel, 12042 West Broad Street. Also at this event, the Dudley Award and the Lanier Award will be presented to the top collegiate player in the state with the Dudley Award going to a NCAA Division I player and the Lanier Award presented to a player from a NCAA Division II, IIII, NAIA and IUSCAA college.
The Dudley Award is named for the late Bill Dudley, an NFL Hall of Famer who starred at Virginia while the Lanier Award is named for Willie Lanier, also an NFL Hall of Famer who graduated from Richmond’s Maggie Walker High School.
The Touchdown Club of Richmond is a sports-social organization that serves to promote the best interests of the American game of football and sports in general, under the guidance of elected officers with the predominate purpose being to recognize worthy athletes for their accomplishments and to encourage them to continue their education and athletic careers.
