BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech athletics department announced today a special season ticket deal in conjunction with the upcoming July 4 holiday that would benefit military service members.
For every season ticket purchase between July 2 and July 7, the athletics department will donate a single-game ticket to local military members, which would allow them to attend the Military Appreciation game on Sept. 12 when the Hokies take on Furman at Lane Stadium. The department will work with local military organizations, including the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, to distribute tickets to military members on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Fans who already have purchased season tickets will be notified at a later date as to whether they will be able to purchase an individual Furman game ticket to donate to a military service member.
Season tickets are $350 per ticket and allow fans access to all six home games, including the season opener on Labor Day night against the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Tech knocked off then-No. 8 Ohio State 35-21 in Columbus, Ohio last season – the Buckeyes’ lone loss.
The Furman game also will serve as the annual “White Effect” game. Fans are encouraged to purchase the official White Effect/Military Appreciation t-shirt, which is $6 and can be purchased at the University Bookstore. A portion of the proceeds from the t-shirt sales will benefit the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
The Hokies return 16 starters from last season’s squad, including five All-ACC players. Tech’s defense returns eight starters from a unit that ranked third nationally in both sacks per game and tackles for a loss per game. The school’s streak of 22 straight bowl games is the second-longest streak in the nation.
