BLACKSBURG – Former Virginia Tech football standouts Kyshoen Jarrett and Lawrence Gibson became the latest Hokies to be selected in the NFL Draft, as they were chosen Saturday on the final day of the three-day event held in Chicago.
Their selections extended the Virginia Tech streak of having at least one player drafted by an NFL team to 22 consecutive seasons. The last time at least one Tech player did not get drafted was 1993.
Jarrett, a native of Tannersville, Pennsylvania, went to the Washington Redskins, who chose him in the sixth round with the 181st overall pick. Gibson, a native of Sierra Vista, Arizona, went to the Dallas Cowboys, who chose him in the seventh round with the 243rd overall selection.
Jarrett, who earned third-team All-ACC honors following the 2013 season, became the 30th defensive back in Tech history to be drafted. He recorded 88 tackles last season, including three for a loss, and he also interception three passes. He finished his career with 249 tackles, including eight for a loss, and he intercepted five passes.
Jarrett also returned 52 punts for the Hokies in his career, averaging 8.9 yards per return. He returned one 94 yards a touchdown.

Gibson started all 13 games for the Hokies at left tackle last season. He ended up starting the final 17 games of his career.
Gibson became the second Tech offensive lineman to be drafted in the past three years and the third in the past six years. Former tackle Vinston Painter went in the 2013 draft to the Denver Broncos, who chose him in the sixth round, and former tackle Ed Wang was chosen by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2010 draft.
Gibson also became the 16th offensive lineman drafted in head coach Frank Beamer’s tenure with the Hokies.
The two Tech players drafted this weekend bring the total to 93 players drafted by NFL teams in Beamer’s tenure.
