Roth a guest panelist at IMG Intercollegiate Athletics Forum

Tech's radio voice to participate in event featuring the biggest names in college athletics

BLACKSBURG – Bill Roth, the “Voice of the Hokies,” has been chosen to be one of the guest panelists at the 2014 IMG Intercollegiate Athletics Forum to be held Wednesday and Thursday in New York City.

The IMG Intercollegiate Athletics Forum is a program that serves as a platform for stakeholders to openly examine and candidly debate the numerous and complex issues surrounding college sports. This forum provides an "insiders view" by offering firsthand insights from those directly shaping the future of intercollegiate athletics – athletic directors, university presidents, conference commissioners, coaches, academic advisers, media and corporate sponsors.

The forum includes featured interviews and roundtable discussions. This year’s speakers include Mark Emmert, the president of the NCAA; Jeff Long, the AD at Arkansas who also heads up the College Football Playoff selection committee; Jim Delany, the commissioner of the Big Ten Conference; Jay Bilas, a basketball analyst for ESPN; Myron Rolle, a former Florida State player and Rhodes Scholar; and many others.

Roth will be participating in a breakout session of “College Radio Legends” who will be offering their insight on the growth and success of college sports through a roundtable discussion. He will be participating with Notre Dame’s football voice Don Criqui and Rod Bramblett, the current play-by-play voice for the Auburn Tigers radio network.

“I’m honored to be chosen to participate in this event in New York and to represent Virginia Tech and IMG,” Roth said. “These are exciting times in college athletics, and I’m looking forward to hearing what these tremendous leaders think about the future of college sports, which mean so much to all of us.”

Roth is in his 27^th football season as the Hokies’ play-by-play radio voice. In 2013, he was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, and this past August, was inducted into the WAER Hall of Fame in Syracuse, New York. WAER is the campus radio station at Syracuse University, where many, including Roth (class of 1987), honed their broadcasting skills before entering the professional ranks.

Roth will be calling his 22^nd straight bowl game when the Hokies take on Cincinnati in the Military Bowl on Dec. 27. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
