HARRISONBURG, Va. – Old Dominion quarterback Taylor Heinicke was named the 2013 VaSID University Division Football Offensive Player of the Year, while James Madison linebacker Stephon Robertson was voted the Defensive Player of the Year. Rookie of the Year recognition went to Old Dominion running back Gerard Johnson and Virginia Tech defensive back Kendall Fuller, while Coach of the Year honors went to William & Mary’s Jimmye Laycock.
Nine Virginia Tech players were honored, matching last year’s total. Making the first team from Virginia Tech were offensive guard Andrew Miller, defensive end James Gayle, linebacker Jack Tyler, cornerback Kendall Fuller and punter A.J. Hughes.
Making the second team were defensive tackles Derrick Hopkins and Luther Maddy, cornerback Kyle Fuller and rover Kyshoen Jarrett.
Sports information directors from throughout the state took part in the voting which, in addition to the top individual awards, named all-state first and second teams on offense and defense.
