Virginia Tech (6-1, 3-0 ACC), ranked 14th in the BCS, 16th in the AP and 19th in the Coaches’ Poll, will look to run its winning streak to seven games when it hosts ACC foe Duke (5-2, 1-2 ACC) Saturday at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field. Kickoff is set for 3:32 p.m. Anish Shroff and Kelly Stouffer will have the call for ESPNU, which will broadcast the game. The game is the annual Orange Effect game, so fans are encouraged to pack the stands in their best orange Hokie outfits.

The Series
• This will be the 21st football meeting between Virginia Tech and Duke University. Tech has won the last 12 meetings to take a 13-7 lead in the series. The two schools met six times on the gridiron between 1937 and 1951 as members of the Southern Conference with Duke winning all six of those games. Tech’s first win in the series came in 1969, a 48-12 victory at Norfolk.
• Tech is 7-0 at Lane Stadium, 5-2 against Duke in Durham and 1-5 at neutral sites. In the seven games at Lane Stadium, the Hokies have averaged 33 points against the Blue Devils while giving up just an average of nine points per game, out-scoring them 230-61. Twenty of those 61 points came last year.
• The Hokies had to hold on and recover an onsides kick late to secure a 14-10 win on the road in 2011 and rallied from a 20-0 deficit last year to win 41-20 at home. The win marked the biggest comeback under Beamer, topping a 17-point rally at NC State in 2010.
• Three of the last five games between Tech and Duke have been decided by 11 points or less. In 2008, Tech won 14-3 in Blacksburg, then won 34-26 at Duke in 2009 and held on for a 14-10 win on the road in 2011.

Strong In The ACC
• Virginia Tech is an impressive 60-15 in ACC games (31-7 in ACC home games) since joining the league in 2004. Tech is also 41-7 against ACC Coastal Division opponents, 22-3 at home.

North Carolina Hokies
• Tech has five North Carolina natives on its roster: redhirt junior kicker Ethan Keyserling (Chapel Hill), true freshman wide receiver Carlis Parker (Statesville), redshirt freshman running back Chris Mangus (Raleigh), redshirt freshman linebacker Dahman McKinnon (Hope Mills) and true freshman linebacker Jamieon Moss (Elizabeth City).

Success Against the Tar Heel State
• Virginia Tech has had pretty good success playing games against teams from the state of North Carolina. Since joining the ACC in 2004, Virginia Tech is 31-4 against any team (conference or non-conference) from the Tar Heel State, winning 16 of its last 17 games.
• Since 2004, the Hokies are 9-0 against Duke University, 4-0 against Wake Forest University, 8-2 against the University of North Carolina, 5-1 against East Carolina University, 3-1 against NC State University, 1-0 against Appalachian State University and 1-0 against Western Carolina University.
