The Virginia Tech football team (4-6, 2-4 ACC) will head north to Alumni Stadium for an ACC contest with the Eagles of Boston College (2-8, 1-5 ACC) Saturday in Chestnut Hill. Kickoff is set for 12:29 p.m. and the game will be televised regionally on the ACC Network. Tim Brant, Dave Archer and Mike Hogewood will handle the announcing duties.

The Series
• Saturday’s game will mark the 21st football meeting between Virginia Tech and Boston College. The Hokies hold a 14-6 edge in the series after beating the Eagles 30-14 at home last year, their fourth-straight win in the series.
• Virginia Tech has lost two of its last three trips to Alumni Stadium. In Tech’s last trip to Chestnut Hill (2010), the Hokies blanked the Eagles 19-0.
• Tech beat BC 48-14 at home in 2009. In 2008, the two teams split a pair of games. Tech lost at Chestnut Hill, 28-23, before bouncing back for a convincing 30-12 win over the Eagles in the ACC Championship Game.
• In 2007, the same thing happened as Tech lost a 14-10 heartbreaker to the second-ranked Eagles at home but rebounded to beat the Eagles 30-16 in Jacksonville to claim the ACC title.
• Tech and BC met for the first time on the gridiron in 1993 with the Eagles taking a 48-34 home win. The following season, the Hokies returned to BC and posted a 12-7 victory. Boston College returned the favor with a 20-14 win at Tech to open the 1995 season.
• Since joining Virginia Tech in the ACC in 2005, the Hokies lead the regular-season series 4-3, but also lead the overall series in that span 6-3 thanks to the two wins in the championship games.

Do or Die Time
• The Virginia Tech football squad is in an unfamiliar position sitting at 4-6 and having to win its remaining two games - at Boston College and home against Virginia - to extend its bowl streak to 20 years in a row. Only Florida State (31 seasons; qualified in 2012) and Florida (23 seasons; qualified in 2012) have a longer active streak. The last time the Hokies didn’t qualify for a bowl came in the 1992 season when they went 2-8-1. To put into persepctive how long it’s been since the Hokies didn’t play in a bowl, consider this: George H.W. Bush was serving his term in the White House, a stamp was 29 cents, a gallon of gas cost around $1.10 and most, if not all, of this year’s freshman class wasn’t even born yet.

Road Troubles
• Tech entered this year with the nation’s longest active winning streak in true road games (13), but has struggled on the road this year.
• Virginia Tech has lost its last seven games away from Lane Stadium dating back to last year’s ACC Championship Game in Charlotte, N.C., followed by a loss to Michigan to end the year at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. This year, the Hokies are 0-5 away from home.
• The last time Tech lost seven or more in a row away from home was from 1987-88, Coach Frank Beamer’s first two years at Tech, when the Hokies lost nine in a row away from home.

Virginia Game Time
• ESPN exercised its last option for a six-day hold for the Nov. 24 games, meaning the kickoff time and channel for the Virginia Tech-Virginia game at Lane Stadium won’t be announced until after this week’s slate of games, on Sunday morning at the latest.
