25 Frank Beamer Retired Jersey

The all-time winningest coach in Virginia Tech football history, Frank Beamer has succeeded as both a coach and player in the orange and maroon. Under Beamer, Tech football has enjoyed unprecedented success with 17 consecutive bowl appearances, three ACC titles, three ACC Coastal Division crowns, three BIG EAST Conference titles, two "major" bowl victories and a trip to the national championship game.

Tech won the BIG EAST title in 1995 and 1999 and shared it in '96. Beamer was voted BIG EAST Coach of the Year by the league's coaches each of those seasons and was tabbed the ACC Coach of the Year in both 2004 and 2005.

In 1997, he was inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame and following the 1999 season, he earned eight national coach of the year honors after leading to the national title game in New Orleans.

Beamer had his jersey retired on Sept. 12, 2002, prior to the Marshall game.

In 2002, the Virginia Tech athletics department developed a new policy on retiring jerseys. This special honor is bestowed to acknowledge an individual who has won an established national award in their sport, while allowing the number to continue to be worn by others. Tech will no longer retire numbers.
