BLACKSBURG – Seven Virginia Tech cross country runners made the 2015 All-ACC Academic Cross Country Teams, as announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford on Thursday.
The group included Thomas Curtin, a redshirt senior from Leesburg, Virginia who won three races this past fall – including the ACC men’s individual title. Curtin finished 22nd at the NCAA Championships, earning All-America honors. He is pursing a degree in sociology.
The remainder of the group included Darren Barlow, Daniel Jaskowak and Brent Musselman – all of whom made the men’s team. Lauren Berman, Katie Kennedy and Abigail Motley represented Tech on the women’s squad.
To be eligible for consideration for the team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade-point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his undergraduate academic career. Graduate students needed to maintain at least a 3.5 grade-point average for both the previous semester and for their graduate school careers.
Barlow, whose best finish this season was 25th at the VT Alumni Invite, is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineer, while Jaskowak, whose 12th-place finish at the NCAA Pre-National in an unseeded race marked his best of the 2015 season, is pursuing a degree in human nutrition, food and exercise. Musselman, a sophomore who came in 24th at the VT Alumni Invite, has declared human nutrition, foods and exercise as his major.
On the women’s side, Lauren Berman, a freshman who finished in the top 50 of four events this season (including 10th at the VT Alumni Invite), is enrolled in general engineering. Kennedy, a sophomore who came in ninth at the VT Alumni Invite, is pursuing a degree in public relations, and Motley, a junior who recorded three top-40 finishes this past fall, is pursuing a degree in international studies.
