Tech completes 2018 home slate over next five days: After its Wednesday game at West Virginia, the Hokies returned home to close out its 2018 home slate with a four-game homestand. Tech will play its final four games at English Field at Union Park starting with a three-game ACC weekend series against Miami Friday through Sunday, before hosting William & Mary on Tuesday. This weekend’s series will be highlighted by Senior Day on Sunday, as eight Hokies will be recognized pregame.

Hokies versus Miami: Tech welcomes the Hurricanes to English Field at Union Park looking to end a five-game slide to Miami, which included ending the Hokies’ season in 2017 in Coral Gables. The overall series stands at 31-8 in the Hurricanes’ favor, and they also own a 13-6 mark in Blacksburg. The Hokies have won just two of 13 ACC series in their history against Miami, however both of those came at home - in 2010 and 2012 (both two games to one) - but since the Hurricanes have won five of six. The lone win was March 11, 2016, a 14-3 decision to start the ACC season, when Tom Stoffel and Nick Anderson both had five RBI in the victory.

Success at home: Tom Stoffel has been making the most of his senior season at the new confines of English Field at Union Park. He’s the only Hokie with a batting average over .300 - he’s at .365 in 18 games while his OPS is over 1.000 (.434 on-base & 581 slugging), which are all team highs at home. Stoffel also leads the team, at home, with two triples, 16 RBI and 43 total bases and a team-low (min. 36 ABs) eight strikeouts. Andrew McDonald (1.96), Ian Seymour (2.49) and Connor Coward (2.51) all sport below a 3.00 ERA. Coward leads the pack in innings (28.2) and strikeouts (35), while Seymour has 25 strikeouts in 21.2 innings and McDonald 22 in 18.1 innings.

Who’s heating up: Over the last 10 games, two players have been quite hot for the Hokies - Sam Fragale and Stevie Mangrum. In that span, Fragale is batting a team-best .391, and leads the team with 18 hits, 11 runs scored and 10 RBI. Meanwhile, Stevie Mangrum is batting .355 with a .677 slugging percentage - helped by his team-high three home runs - and a .512 on-base percentage, aided by a team-high 10 walks. Nick Owens is currently riding a 12-game reached base streak, while Jack Owens’ streak is at 11 straight games. Ian Seymour has been phenomenal in his last two starts, tossing a team-high tying 14.0 innings and allowing just one run. His 0.64 ERA is by far the team best over the past 10 games. Joey Sullivan is 2-0 in six appearance (14.0 IP) and a 3.21 ERA, while Andrew McDonald has struck out a team-best 16 batters (12.0 IP) over the 10-game stretch.
