Tech duo named to the ACC Baseball All-Academic Team
Sciretta and Fragale make it 11 straight years with at least two Hokies on squad

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech baseball players Phil Sciretta and Sam Fragale were among the 51 ACC student-athletes named to the 2016 ACC Baseball All-Academic Team as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.

With the multiple selections, it marks the 11th straight year the Hokies have had at least two members selected to the squad, with the 2007 team still ranking with the most ever at five. Tech is one of 12 ACC schools this season to have at least two players make the team.

Sciretta, a Duxbury, Massachusetts, native, is a recent graduate of the school and earned his degree in finance. Fragale, a redshirt-sophomore infielder from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a human nutrition, food and science major. Both Hokies made the team for the first time.

The ACC's Scholar-Athlete of the Year was Pat Krall of Clemson. The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average for their career as well as a 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. To view the entire team, CLICK HERE.
