ACC announces seeding for the 2018 Wrestling Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech will have the top seeded wrestlers from 165 pounds to 197 pounds at Saturday’s ACC Wrestling Championship in Chapel Hill, N.C., where the Hokies will look to defend their conference title.

Redshirt sophomore David McFadden (165), freshman Hunter Bolen (174), redshirt junior Zack Zavatsky (184) and redshirt senior Jared Haught (197) were the unanimous number one seeds at their weight classes, as selected by the league’s coaches. Tech’s four No. 1 seeds are the most in this year’s field.

Along with redshirt sophomore Brent Moore, the number two seed at 141, and redshirt senior Dennis Gustafson, seeded second at 133, the six Hokies will automatically receive byes to the semifinals.

Redshirt freshman Kyle Norstrem and redshirt junior Ryan Blees earned the number three seeds at 125 and 149 pounds, respectively. The ACC received two automatic bids to the NCAA Championships at 125 and four at 149.

Redshirt junior Solomon Chishko is seeded sixth at 157, where the top three placers will punch their ticket to nationals, and redshirt freshman Andrew Dunn is seeded fifth at heavyweight, one of the deepest conference weight classes in the country. The top five 285-pounders will qualify for NCAAs. The top five wrestlers at 133 will also receive automatic berths.
