BLACKSBURG - No. 10 Virginia Tech dropped its first match of the season and its first ever dual at the Moss Arts Center on Saturday night as the Hokies couldn’t get past No. 4 Missouri, 22-12, in front of a sold out crowd of 1,141.

The Hokies (3-1), who picked up wins in four of the 10 bouts, are now 7-1 all-time on the stage at the Moss Arts Center. At No. 4, the Tigers were the highest ranked opponent that Tech has faced on the stage in Blacksburg.

Redshirt freshman Brent Moore picked up the first victory of the night for Tech where he registered a first period takedown and racked up 1:27 of riding time to grind out a 4-0 decision. Later, classmate B.C. LaPrade kept it close with No. 2 Joey Lavallee at 157 pounds where he lost by decision, giving Mizzou a 13-3 lead in the match.

No. 5 David McFadden followed with a 5-3 decision at 165 that cut the Hokies’ deficit to seven, 13-6, and Zack Zavatsky also kept the match score close, 16-9, after a decision at 184 that set the stage for a top three bout at 197.

No. 3 Willie Miklus trailed No. 2 Jared Haught for nearly the entire match and led 7-2 in the waning seconds of the third period. Looking for bonus points, Haught took a shot, missed and Miklus put him on his back, securing the pin with 19 seconds left in the third and extending the Tigers’ lead to 22-9.

At heavyweight, Andrew Dunn picked up his third dual meet win of the season with a 3-1 decision, making the final score 22-12.

The Hokies return to action this week at one of the prestigious individual tournaments in the country, the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, from Dec. 9-10.
